Posted within this blog entry are finalized product pics of the new Kaws x Sorayama piece called "No Future Companion" and in my honest opinion this new collaborative design turned out amazing!!! Not only is it a great sculpt to begin with but this figure has countless points of articulation!!! As stated earlier, No Future Companion will release in extremely limited quantities and will be available in two colorways which are silver chrome and black chrome. Coming off the great success of the Companion keychains, artist Kaws and Original Fake are set to release their next edition of keychains which in this case will be Kaws' signature Chum figure. There will be 5 colorways available for this release which are black, red, yellow, white and clear. Look for them to start appearing online and in-stores on June 26th.

KAWS X CLIPSE - COVER ART

Artist Kaws recently collaborated with the hip-hop duo Clipse as he helped design the cover art for their single "Kinda Like A Big Deal." With a song title like that it's only right to have one of the best and most coveted artist in the business design your graphics. Collaborating with companies and individuals outside of the urban art culture is nothing new to Kaws as he's worked with the likes of Nike, Lance Armstrong, Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes and even Kanye West, who himself is a self proclaimed art enthusiast. As if he wasn't famous enough, Kaws' popularity continues to grow at an alarming rate so be on the lookout for many more projects like this. It's just be-Kaws!!!

KAWS X SORAYAMA

Original-Fake and world renowned artist Kaws have collaborated with iconic Japanese artist Sorayama to bring you a newly designed limited edition figure which is said to be a hybrid of the Companion by Kaws and the Future Mickey Mouse by Sorayama. This amazing new work of art(which is currently nameless...) will measure up to around 12" in height and will consist of all metal with articulated joints and poseable body parts. There will be two colorways made available, silver chrome and black chrome. As always, this figure will be released in extremely limited quantities and will only be available at select retailers. To coincide with this release, Kaws and Sorayama will also be releasing a limited edition shirt in both black/white and white/black colorways. Pricing on the new figure and shirt is yet to be determined, but expect to pay around $1,400(USD) and $100(USD) respectively. No release date has been set for either item. The "5YL Companion" Key Chain is slated to be the next release by Kaws. Some speculate that these are 3" in height and will retail for about $15(USD). It's pure speculation for now, as no official word has been released yet... Check back for updates here on Always Seen though.

UPDATE:

The official word is out and it looks like the "5YL Companion" Key Chain is actually 5 cm in height and retails for about $12(USD). They are currently available at Colette Paris, but please be aware that they are priced way above retail($27 USD to be exact). That seems to be the norm for every place that sells Kaws though. Brooklyn based artist KAWS takes a trip to the west coast for his first ever solo exhibition in Los Angeles called "The Long Way Home", which will be hosted by the Honor Fraser Gallery. The man himself will be in attendance for the opening reception where you can expect to find vintage KAWS pieces as well as new works in the form of mixed media art, 3D sculptures and even designer toys(life-size Chum anyone?). This show opens on 02.21.09(6-8 p.m.) and runs through 04.04.09. If you plan on attending the opening reception, I suggest you try and get there early because spacing will definitely be limited for this event. [more info]

Random Thoughts and the Latest Pickups

Dunny Series 5 Golden Ticket

I started this blog a little over two months ago... It was basically created as a way for me to stay up to date with toys, fine arts and shows as well as let me ramble on about my thoughts on art in general. When I first started, I really didn't think it was gonna be anything at all, I mean everybody has a blog nowadays... I thought maybe a couple of my friends would check it every once in awhile and make fun of me for my grammatical errors and mis-spelled words. I'm not a skilled writer at all and at times I actually have trouble surveying my thoughts to say what I really want to say...

Throughout this whole process I've realized the importance of not only networking, but networking with the right individuals. I've been lucky enough to meet people who not only share the same interests as me but who also have a genuine concern about myself and the site's well being. I've dealt with some really shady characters in the past, individuals who only wanted to benefit and not contribute anything in return. Right now ALWAYS SEEN is in a very good place. I've surrounded myself with exceptional personalities, beautiful people who motivate me everyday!!! I'm not gonna name names but you all know who you are... I wanna take this time out to say THANK YOU and I really appreciate everything!!!
