“These artists represent the rebellious spirit that we very much connect with-mixing old with new, defying boundaries and creating fresh individual perspectives,” said Susanne Dawursk, Harley-Davidson director of Outreach Marketing. “The Art Of Rebellion is a must-see event that showcases the artists and supports the art community at large.”

Harley-Davidson created ART OF REBELLION as a forum for artists to showcase their work and interact with other artists, galleries and media, as well as give them the needed opportunity and exposure to help further their careers and leverage their credibility in the art scene. For the show, each artist will paint one Harley-Davidson Iron 883TM gas tank and they will also sell signature art posters at the show. The Iron 883--part of the Harley-Davidson’s Dark Custom line which fuses minimalist design with a vintage feel--evokes the adventurous spirit of the dawn of the 60’s motorcycle rebellion.

A portion of the proceeds from poster and tank sales will go to CUE Art Foundation. CUE Art Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit forum for contemporary art that gives artists, students, scholars and art professionals resources at many stages of their careers and creative lives (http://www.cueartfoundation.org/).

Born and raised in Los Angeles, the influence of the city surfaces in Kofie’s spiraling, mechanical structures, which often resemble abstracted cityscapes and industrial developments. Upper Playground recently announced a collaborative project with Montana Colors to create artist series Hardcore cans by four artists. The third MTN x UP Limited Edition artist can in the series features the collaborative work of El Mac and Retna.

Each of these artists has developed his own distinctive style and technique; Retna is renowned especially for his bold calligraphic brushwork, and Mac for his uniquely stylized painting of lifelike faces and figures; El Mac uses spraypaint and Retna uses spraypaint and acrylic for paintings; oil, acrylic, enamel, pencil, and other mediums on paper, canvas, and wood.

El Mac and Retna have combined forces a number of times in recent years, and have gained increasing attention and applause for the powerful and beautiful murals they’ve painted in Los Angeles and several other cities around the globe. Last month, they released Alianza, a 96-page hardcover book that highlights their collaborations, along with a selection of individual paintings and photos by each artist, as well as a collection of lifestyle photos, photos of the artists working and their travels, and close-up views of the murals themselves.

Street artist D*Face makes humorous and satirical commentary with his posters and sculptures, encouraging viewers to re-evaluate their urban environment. D*Face grew up in London and had a childhood interest in graffiti when he was exposed to Henry Chalfant's coverage of New York subway graffiti in Spraycan Art and Subway Art. Later as a teenager skateboarding, he was inspired by Thrasher Skateboard Magazine’s coverage of skateboard deck graphics, which led to his interest in stickers and the DIY mentality associated with skate and punk fanzines. He attended an illustration and design course and worked as a freelance illustrator/designer while honing his street work. Influences included Shepard Fairey's "Obey Giant" art campaign, Jim Philips, hip hop, punk music, and popular animated cartoons.

On August 6, 2009, El Mac's "Faces of Life" show opened at FIFTY24SF to crowds of eager fans waiting to get a glimpse of his paintings. The show featured large to medium size burlap canvases done with spray paint, featuring faces of different girls Mac knows, using mostly black & white or gray tones with just a little bit of color added. The show turned out beautifully - each of the pieces a testament to El Mac's talent, detail and meticulous can control.

To coincide with the show, El Mac in conjunction with Paperworks Lab is releasing a print, "Song of Songs". It’s a 7 color hand pulled serigraph that is in a very limited edition of 50 pieces. Printed on black Stonehenge 310 gsm 100% cotton archival deckled edge paper sized at a massive 30x40 inches. The "Near" in the title refers to Michigan-based artist duo Eric and Laura, aka 64 Colors. They're not only the creators of our Marshall series of toys, but also extremely talented artists. Expect beautiful otherworldly paintings, retro style prints, fantastic custom toys (Munnys, Dunnys and Marshalls) plus a fantastic series of hand-sculpted one-of-a-kind paper clay figures. Really, really amazing what these two can do!

The "Afar" in the title refers to another one of our artist friends....Chema Skandal. Chema is based in Mexico City though we first met him at San Diego Comic Con last year. We were immediately impressed by his highly-stylized retro style when he handed us a card. We didn't waste much time in trying to get a show on the calendar with this talented emerging artist. Chema has turned in a great body of playful mixed media pieces on both wood and paper, all very reasonably priced!

Opening night is Friday, August 7 from 7pm until 10pm. Eric and Laura will be attending the opening so be sure to bring your sketch book! Unfortunately Chema couldn't make it, but don't let that stop you from coming out to see his fantastic art! Snacks, sodas and music by DJ Qbot make the evening complete.

“Faces of Life” is a solo exhibition by El Mac, a graffiti mural artist from Los Angeles.

Since beginning to paint graffiti in the mid-90s as “The Mac,” El Mac’s murals have become recognized landmarks in cities across the globe. These pieces, often photorealistic depictions of everyday people and ethereal women, utilize distinctive brushwork that focus on the human face and form. This was Always Seen and co.'s first year attending SDCC as professionals and we tried to focus more on providing coverage of this massive event, so in turn our pickups list wasn't as extensive as year's past but somehow we were still lucky enough to pick up the items that we really wanted. This year's pickups include: both Luck and Fortune cat Dunnys by Mr. Shane Jessup, a couple of customs from Lou Pimentel, SDCC exclusive Cosmic Pennie by Kathie Olivas, SDCC exclusive Mouse Mask by Ron English, SDCC exclusvie WWRP by IDW, and the Wooden Labbit by Amanda Visell x Frank Kozik. Artist Deph made a guest appearance at the kidrobot booth #4529 during today's SDCC events. He was there at 11 a.m.(PST) for a scheduled signing and the release of his new SDCC Exclusive 8" Fatcap. It's been awhile since the last toy release by Deph but it hasn't seemed to affect his popularity or fan following one bit as most of the newly designed Fatcap was accounted for within the first 15 minutes of the convention opening. Alright, Huck's got a new one for ya... Koalataur the Outkast. But before you all go jumping to the obvious conclusion, Koalataur does not actually have any relation to a Koala. He was born a Liontaur (AKA a wemic, urmahlullu, lion-man) but due to the strange coloration of his fur was labeled an outcast at an early age and banished from his tribe. Koalataur being one of the nicer names he was called, it stuck, and his legend was born. Stalked for his one of a kind pelt, he is constantly on the move, alone in a land of mistrust, traveling the jungles, rooting for answers to his lonely, confused world.

Going on sale this Friday, July 24th, at Noon PDT. Each figure is signed, numbered and comes with shown accessories. Due to the nature of the materials, some differences should be expected in each figure. 10 figures in this set, $800 per figure.
